POOL PARTY READY BODY

My EDC smushbox came in the mail last week and it was just kick in the ass I needed. After Coachella I went on an eating binge and wasn’t working out regularly. I’d maybe get two in a week, maybe. Memorial Day, the kick off to the summer party season, is right around the corner so the pressure is definitely on. Time to put down the pack of stogs and pick up those weights!

I’m no fitness expert but I’ve gathered some great workouts from a few close friends who are certified personal trainers. Some folks have asked me how I keep my body svelte, and the answer is diet and exercise. There’s no way around it. Granted, I’ve been blessed with a pretty high metabolism. However, I feel it slowing down a bit as I get older. I’ll save diet for another post…

A favorite workout of mine for when I’m pressed for time is this 20 min body buster:

  1. 15 Squats
  2. 10 Push-ups
  3. 5 Pull-ups or 15 Sit-ups

Repeat over and over for 20 min, taking breaks when you need. To hit different muscles groups and confuse your body a bit, use different variations of the exercise. For example to make your squats more challenging, add weight with dumbells or kettles bells. Instead of regular push-ups, try diamond push-ups, wide-leg push-ups, or push-ups with your legs elevated behind you. For sit-ups, try reverse sit-ups for those lower abs. Keep a tally of how many sets you do and try to improve every workout! I usually couple this workout with a 3mile run.

Try it out and let me know how you do!

I’M PUBLISHED!!!
A photoshoot I styled last year has been published in Vanity Fair! It’s my first to be published ever, so this is very exciting to me. On Monday my friend Jenn, who modeled in the shot, instagrammed the news. I was styling a 12-hour photoshoot and we were at our first location. I read the caption and just bout lost my shit. Admittedly the photo is a little corner. But the feeling as I ran my fingers over the glossy page was the actualization of my dreams coming into fruition. I give all the glory and praise to God for all the opportunities I am continually blessed with as I continue to take my dreams.

Catch up time!

Hello Friends!

Sorry for the lack of posts since my last RAP SHEET with Coachella fits. I’ve been hard at work making tees for the 31 RAX Originals Release Party! It’s been such an amazing learning process. I created the graphic, burned the screen, and screened each tee myself. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity and the platform to bring my dreams to fruition. My friend Abe shot the shirt on Tuesday and pictures will be up soon!

I have a lot of catch up content in the pipeline, so keep your eyes peeled. Summer is just around the corner. What plans do you have lined up?

RAP SHEET: COACHELLA WEEKEND 1

My mind is back and functioning while my body is still catching up a bit. Coachella this year, just like last year, came and went like a dream. I miss the heat, the energy, and even the sandstorm. Coachella is three days lost in the desert surrounded by the beauty of art - music x fashion x culture. Fashionistas and fashionmistas come out to party and feel the hype. Some of my highlights were Major Lazer, Hardwell, and Phoenix. I spent a lot more time walking around and kicken it with folks this year.

I put together looks with pieces that could be taken off and put on throughout the day. Floral and prints were the basis of my looks becuase nothing says hippie more than flowers, right? My trusty Gucci fanny pack held my essentials for the weekend - hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, baby wipes, sunscreen, wallet, lipbalm, iPhone with no service, etc. It got a little dusty but I gave it a good cleaning. I wore the same Vans I did last year and I’m happy I did. They’re super comfy and can take a beating. I’d heard stories of blistered feet from Toms and I wasn’t willing to get my other comfy shoes dirty - Frees, Roshes, Fly Knits.

Day 1 - Hi, Coachella
I’m a bit corny and thought a croptop that said “hi” would make a nice introduction fit. It had once been a shirt that was ruined in the wash when another garment’s dye bled, so I cut it up and repurposed it. The “hi” is made up of Takashi Murakami flowers and my 5-panel hat is floral as well.

  • Tank - In4mation
  • Shorts - Levis
  • Hat - HUF

Day 2 - Little Bit of Lux
Typically for these events, I would say wear clothes you don’t care about because you’ll probably fuck them up or lose them. But for this look I chose a super comfy tank to show of my man cleavage. I tied to my palm leaves printed shorts an ancestral Hermes scarf with horse and carriage print. The scarf came in handy when the wind started to pick up.

  • Tank - Local Celebrity
  • Shorts - Stussy
  • Scarf - Fruition Las Vegas

Day 3 - Sunset Sandstorm
On the last day I wanted to serve a little island flavor to go along with my hair. I loved the colors on the aloha shirt and it looked great against Coachella Valley’s purple sunset skies. I also brought a long-sleeved shirt that came in real handy when the sandstorm (cue Darude) hit during Wu-Tang’s set. I wore boat shoes instead of Vans to keep the look polished.

  • Shirt - 31 RAX
  • Shorts - Levi’s
  • Hat - Forever 21 (lost to the festival gods)
  • Shoes - Sperry Topsiders

Loved my looks, but it was my box braids that stole the show! I was definitely feeling myself with the extra long hair. Box braids are something I have always wanted to try out because they’re as close as I could get to dreads. It took six hours to get done and almost as long to take out. Our friends camping would try to get us to stay the night on the campsite but my response was that I had to wrap up my braids. LOL. I would have kept them in longer but that sandstorm got them really dirty. I washed them right after we got back to the hotel on Sunday night but my scalp was not having it. I think I’ll bring them back sometime this summer…

What were you wearing at Coachella?? Who were some of your favorite acts?? Are you ready to buy your wristbands next month??

This song is just too good.

Even though they didn’t show up at Coachella, it’s coo. Let’s hope for an EDC cameo!

PS: Yes, I am alive. Watch out for a RAP SHEET for my Coachella fits!

RAP SHEET: HEY BLUE HEY
I was headed to a Warby Parker event at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, so I made sure I was looking spiffy. I like to layer shades of the same color that are close to each other in the spectrum. Doing so adds dimensions and depth as opposed to stark contrast. The pale blues and greys blended well together for and overall icy look. I grounded the look with brown wingtips. To break up the the muted colors and add a little pop, I accessorized with an orange paisley pocket square.
Sports Coat: Zara
Shirt: Zara
Sweater: Banana Republic
Pants: Obey
Pocket Square: Zara
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Try layering colors in your next look. Black on black, white on white, red on red, the possibilities are endless!

RAP SHEET: PANTS ON FIRE
With Spring back, it’s a little more appropriate to wear bright colored pants. I went for city casual and built my look around my red pants. I missed my suede cap toes, so I threw them on. After that everything just came together. It’s been warm in the afternoon and cold in the evening, which called for light layers - as is the dresscode in the Bay Area. I didn’t want to get too extra since my pants were bright.
Jacket: Koto at Urban Outfitters
Denim Vest: American Rag
Sweater: Nautica
Pants: Gap
Shoes: Cole Haan
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Colored pants are an easy way to punch up your Spring wardrobe. Wear it with a sports coat or a denim jacket. Try it out and buy pants in your favorite color!

A SPECTACLE OF SPECTACLES

Last Wednesday I attended Warby Parker’s Class Trip at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. Warby Parker is making their way across the country (or have they already made their way from NYC -> SF?) in a yellow school bus where their fashionable and affordable eyewear is available for purchase. The line to get in the bus was a little long for my taste so I made a beeline for a beer and to the photobooth. I struck a few poses and decided to go exploring.

I made my way inside the conservatory and surveyed the scene. I perused the impressive and humd (lawd I was worried my hair was bout to ‘fro) rooms of flora as I sipped on my IPA and munched on pass hors d’oeuvres. Amongst the beautiful flowers I stumbled some fashionable folks.

I had me a fun little me-date. Check back on Wednesday to get the RAP SHEET on my OOTD that I wore the event. Coachella in a few days! I am so pumped! See you there?!
